Winter Pool Care Tips 1- Maintain Proper Chemical Balance

While winter in Western Australia may not bring freezing temperatures, it's still essential to take proper care of your pool during the cooler months.

By following a few simple steps, you can ensure that your pool remains clean, well-maintained, and ready for use when the warmer weather returns. In the next few weeks, we will explore some helpful tips on how to look after your pool during the winter season.

Maintain Proper Chemical Balance:

Although you may not be using your pool as frequently during winter, it's crucial to maintain proper chemical balance. Test your water regularly and adjust the chemical levels accordingly. While the evaporation rate is lower in winter, rainwater can affect the pool's pH and alkalinity. Aim for a pH level between 7.2 and 7.6, and monitor chlorine levels to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria.

Long life algaecide , also known as Winteriser, is a copper based algaecide. One dose would last through the whole winter and reduce the chance of a green pool in Spring. However, too much copper in pool can be harmful to bathers' health and cause staining on pool surface. Please bring a water sample into your local pool shop and get the copper level tested before adding any copper based algaecide.

Salt level also needs to be monitored during winter. Running a salt water chlorinator or a hydroxinator with low salt level is like running an engine with no oil. It will cause the cell to fail prematurely. However adding too much salt may sending the chlorinator into 'self-protection' mode and shut down, which will lead to no chorine production, eventually a green pool.
